Instagram’s Auto-Scroll Test: What It Means for Your Content Strategy
Instagram is trailing an auto-scroll feature that moves to the next post automatically after you’ve viewed one – similar to Reels/TikTok behavior. The goal is off course to keep users engaged for longer by streamlining content consumption.
- Posts advance automatically after a brief view period
- Users can still manually swipe/stop
- Test is limited; not all accounts will see it
What you need to do:
- Lead with strong visuals and headlines in the first second
- Front-load key value/CTA above the fold (typically this is the first line of your caption or the first couple of seconds of your video).
- Refresh creative to capture attention instantly
- A/B test shorter copy
- Monitor watch time, saves, and click through rates for shifts post-rollout
